Microsoft Windows Server 2016 to Feature Azure Cloud Learnings : Kushagra Vaid @ IDF 2016
At the Intel IDF 2016 event in San Francisco, Kushagra Vaid, GM, Azure Cloud HW Engineering in conversation with Diane Bryant, Intel executive vice president and general manager of its Data Center Group said,
“We have a very strong presence in the public cloud by virtue of Azure but we also have a very strong presence in the enterprise by virtue of Windows Server. So what we have been doing is to close the loop between the public cloud and private cloud. We have a vision of cloud consistency where we can take the learnings from public cloud and bring them back to the private cloud so that our enterprise customers can benefit from the same technologies.”
According to Vaid, Microsoft Windows Server 2016 which will be released later this year will have features and technologies from Microsoft Azure. Microsoft has officially positioned Windows Sever 2016 as the ‘Cloud-Ready’ Operating system. As per Microsoft in their Windows Server 2016 datasheet:
Windows Server 2016 is the cloud-ready operating system that supports your current workloads while introducing new technologies that make it easy to transition to cloud computing when you are ready. It delivers powerful new layers of security along with Azure-inspired innovation for the applications and infrastructure that power your business.
Under CEO Satya Nadella’s leadership, Microsoft has already closed the gap with Amazon on public cloud as reported in the 2016 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS). A well executed strategy of a seamless hybrid cloud platform for enterprises can put a lot of pressure on Amazon and VMware among others.
