Smart Connected Products

Sony has recognized that in order to be a major player in the new IoT world, it will need to complement its smartphone products with new connected products that interact with the apps on smartphones. The company has developed new concepts and is developing smart Xperia products that are connected and will help you in your home or mobility needs. These are smart intelligent devices that understand preferences, activities and behavior to provide useful and contextual information so you can take action. Below are forthcoming products and ongoing projects from Sony’s Smart Product division.

Unlike other personal agent products, the advantage with Xsperia Ear is it is easy to wear and connects wirelessly to your smartphone. The Xsperia Ear responds to verbal commands with intuitive operations and gives you information and assistance in a natural, authentic voice interaction without you looking or touching your smartphone. The product features Sony’s Agent Technology and a proximity sensor and helps you keep up with your calendar, events and other personalized updates while doing your everyday activities. Xperia Ear will be available to purchase from November 2016.

Xperia Projector for Digital Transformation

sproj3The Xperia Projector is a concept which is straight out of Tom Cruise’s Minority Report movie and is bridging the physical and digital worlds in your home. Sony has an impressive vision with this product to turn any clear surface into a touchscreen. You can now play digital games on a coffee table or have your recipe project on your kitchen counter where you can scroll and interact with the screen. The concept is designed to enrich, empower and stimulate creative family communication using a natural and interactive interface projection on any clear surface. It also respond to touch, voice and gestures just as you would interact with your smartphone screen.

Xperia Agent for Home Automation and Voice Based Search

The Xperia Agent is Sony’s answer to Amazon Echo and Google Home and is a stationary home based personalized assistant. As per Sony, it will enhance everyday life by responding to voice and gestures – providing you with useful information, communication assistance and home appliance controls. It is also powered by Sony’s voice technology and will respond to a number of commands and has a built-in camera and projector display for projecting content onto surfaces.

Xperia Eye Always on and Sensing Wearable Camera

Another project that Sony is working on is Xperia Eye which is a conceptual vision for an ultra compact, wearable wide-angle lens camera with the flexibility to be easily attached to clothing or worn around the neck. Currently it is in proof-of-concept using Sony’s camera and sensing technology in its smallest form-factor and offers 360-degree spherical lens for a natural field of view. With this device, you can capture life’s moments without thinking about the technology. This product can have potential use cases not just in personal but also commercial life if Sony does a good job in positioning and pricing it.

Xperia Agent, Xperia Projector and Xperia Eye are all in concept and Sony has not yet released information on when they will be productized and available in the market. Some cool technology to look forward!
