VCE Offers Turn-Key Hybrid Cloud Software Enabled Converged Infrastructure Solution

Yesterday EMC announced VSPEX BLUE Hyper-Converged appliance – VCloud News covered and also published the evolution of converged infrastructure, difference between converged and hyper-converged infrastructure, key vendors playing in the market and relative position of the VSPEX BLUE. Today VCE announced VCE Foundation for Federation Enterprise Hybrid Cloud, a new integrated solution designed to further speed and simplify the deployment and management of hybrid cloud environments.

Although the announcement doesn’t specifically mention vBlock, it does talk about factory integration of additional VMware and EMC technologies including VMware NSX network virtualization, VMware vRealize™ management and orchestration software, and EMC ViPR software-defined-storage. VCE claims that the Federation Enterprise Hybrid Cloud will allow customers greater degree of convergence by extending the standardized, repeatable practices of the unique “VCE Experience” and enable them to rapidly offer hybrid cloud services. The company claims all VCE solutions run on its proven, industry-leading converged infrastructure, which provides the VCE Experience as pre-integrated, pre-tested and pre-validated compute, network, storage and virtualization as a single product (read vBlock).

Todd Pavone, executive vice president, Product Strategy and Development, VCE said, “with this new solution, VCE is scaling its formula of simplicity and outstanding customer experience up and down the cloud infrastructure stack through an expanded portfolio of integrated solutions, taking full advantage of key software-defined data center technologies from EMC and VMware.” VMware’s Raghu Raghuram, executive vice president and general manager, Software-Defined Data Center Division echoed the same “the VCE Foundation with one-call support for VMware NSX™ and the vRealize™ cloud management platform will enable customers to realize greater agility, value and security through powerful network virtualization and management platforms.”

VCloud News feels that the offering is suitable for enterprises needing pre-packaged infrastructure and the ability to rapidly burst from private to public cloud, all with the ease of just ordering and procuring from a single source i.e. VCE. However, converged infrastructure, hyper-converged infrastructure, private, hybrid and public cloud offerings are starting to be overbearing and confusing for IT decision makers. It would really benefit if IT infrastructure vendors are positioning and conveying the differences in their cloud and converged infrastructure offerings clearly to their customers.
